Welcome to

Napier
At Napier, we visited a Maori village. Traditional greeting, involving beating of sticks, chanting, and mock threats. One of our group was selected as "Champion" to answer the challenge..
The friendly people who guided us. By the way, the people in both Australia and NZ were very friendly. They keep eel ponds as eel is a staple food for them.
Tattooing is a tradition among the Maori. Children like this are tattooed with removable ink. Adults who want a permanent tattoo need to go through a process of self-examination and discovery before proceeding. Both men and women may get tattoos. Musical interlude, with traditional instruments and some modern ones as well. This particular group of Maoris has adapted well to the modern world but retained their own traditions as well.
Poi twirling (no, not the kind of poi you eat). Looks simple, right? Until you try it. Teaching the use of the club. Once again our "Champion" (and fellow trivia team member) stands up to the challenge.
The town mayor greeted us on our return - old cars and all. Also a dixieland band.
