The French Riviera

A day among the rich and famous in Monaco. Clear water, lovely beaches--no wonder people flock here for vacations.
We all live in a...? We have no idea why this machine is located outside the oceanographic museum. It was a warm day and the gardens were cool and inviting.
The inside of St. Nicholas Cathedral. This is the home church of the royal family. The grave of Princess Grace--by far the biggest draw for tourists in the church.
The grave of Prince Rainier. The town is so clean it hurts. Even the apartments and hotels look (and are) expensive.
The changing of the Guard at the palace. As in most old cities, the streets are very narrow and electricity and TV are still carried over a maze of wires.
Chuck took a trip to Aix-en-Provence. This is one of 100 fountains in the city--someone counted them, apparently. The Ministry of Commerce building has some interesting architecture. Pat gets headaches like that sometimes.
The town is very proud of its association with the artist Paul Cezanne, who was born and did a great deal of his painting there.
As usual, there was the town hall, central square with outdoor eating places, and the town clock. The Aix Cathedral is said to have been built on the ruins of a Roman temple to Apollo.
Within the church there are mosaic fragments and parts of pillars from a Roman ruin. The main part of the Church was built in the 13th century and has been restored and redecorated over the years.
