SAN CAYETANO

After leaving Cerro Pelon we returned to our hotel at Rancho San Cayetano

The hotel was a peaceful and relaxing sanctuary, set in beautifully-kept grounds

The dining room, where the owners Pablo and Lisette served amazing meals, reflected their love of the butterflies and their desire to preserve them

We also took a short walk to the village of San Cayetano, which hugs the hillside above the hotel

The center of the town is dominated by the old church, which served as a location in "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"

An unusual feature of the church is the stained glass, which is set in such as way as to catch the evening light and reflect it onto the interior walls in bright jewel tones

Across the street from the church is a community gathering place.  The preponderance of women shows the importance of money coming from men working in the US to the economy of this area

We took a back way home, which gave us the opportunity to see more of the lifestyle of this small village.
