Magical Monarchs: A Week In Mexico, March 2005 | |||||

SANTA CLARA DEL COBRE |
Our next resting place was Hacienda Mariposas in Patzcuaro
There were extensive grounds to
wander around, as the hotel is a preserve
In the morning we went to Santa Clara
del Cobre, which is a town famous for its copper works
Like many places we saw in Mexico,
there was an interesting mixture of old and new here.
We visited a copper foundry and
artisan's shop
The owners demonstrated the ancient
techniques of copper working
Many people, even youngsters, need to
participate for the process to work
Large cooking pots are a particularly popular item
The shop had many beautiful pieces of work for sale
Pat would have bought much more had there been an economical way to transport it
