DAY 5: Genovesa (Tower) Island

We began our visit to Genovesa with a beach walk and a talk from Geoff about the local flora and fauna (in the Galapagos, a bird in the bush is worth almost as much as one in the hand). The stars of the show were definitely the red-footed boobies, with their bright coloration.
Then it was off to the Prince Phillip's Steps, a 90-foot climb up what was alleged to be a staircase. At the top we encountered another strange landscape. There were many birds, but we were in search of the elusive short-eared owl.
We found mockingbirds--not as bold as the Hood mockingbirds  and Nasca boobies, but no owl.

As the sun began to set, we had to go back.

"The owl! the owl!" our guides cried out. . .and there it was. Another successful trip.
Then it was back down the steps to another perfect sunset.
