A Visit to Lima

After leaving the Galapagos, we started our tour of Peru by flying to Lima.

As we travelled through Lima, we passed many beautiful parks. For a place that gets less than 1.5 inches of rain a year, it was very green.  We also visited the Bridge of Sighs--and were very attentive as Peggy pointed out the local watering holes nearby.
We visited Lover's Park along the beach, noted for its elaborate mosaics and the statue that gives it the name.
Then almost everyone decided to join us for lunch at the La Tiendecita Blanca (recommended by a colleague of Chuck's). We don't know if they have recovered from the invasion yet.
We began our archaeological expeditions with a visit to Huaca Pucllana, located in the heart of the city but which had, until recently, been only a large mound of dirt.    After excavation, it turned out the be the remains of a pre-Incan settlement. Chuck was pleased to know that they used "bookshelf construction" techniques for their buildings.
Some of the finds had been moved to a small museum for display. . .  While others were more appropriately left in situ to give tourists a feel for the atmosphere.
The animals that were there seemed to attract a great deal of attention, either because they were odd-looking, like this dog (one of many on the site). . .  Or cute, like this llama.
